Stop The Casino In St. Tammany

St. Tammany President Kevin Davis has proposed that a casino be built just outside of Slidell. He appears to be pushing hard for this casino, even though the majority of residents in St. Tammany appear to be against this project. The justification for putting in a casino is that it will generate 8-12 million dollars a year in parish revenue, which will solve the 8 million dollar shortfall in the current parish budget. We do not think that this is a good solution to St. Tammany's financial problems.

Most states, parishes and counties across the country are currently experiencing problems with lack of revenues due to the current economic problems in the United States. St. Tammany Parish is not alone. Other parishes and states are tightening their belts and looking for new sources of revenue. However, we do not believe that a casino in Slidell is a viable source of revenue for St. Tammany. We believe that a better solution to the casino would be to bring new businesses and jobs to St. Tammany that would add to the quality of life that we all enjoy here in St. Tammany.
